A4 Filing cabinet or Foolscap

Can I quickly ask, will an A4 filing cabinet be big enough for all my household paperwork? What won't I be able to file that I could in a Foolscap one?

(I have seen a funky pink one, which is cheap, I love it but it is only A4).

Will I regret getting it?

The only thing you won't be able to file is foolscap suspension files! Occasionally you'll get something with a tear off slip you don't need to use which is longer than an A4 sheet. Foolscap is a UK hangover from pre metric days.

Thanks wowfudge!

I like to use those manila document wallets, which are a bit bigger than A4, so mine is (I think) standard office size with suspension green pockets. That way I put stuff in by date without needing to punch it.

the cab is 18" wide. The advantage of a standard office size is that stationery to fit is widely available, sometime free on freegle (where I offer my used stuff).

If it matters, mine is a 2-drawer so it will fit under kitchen worktop but is slightly deeper.

staples page has loaded at last, and I see you meant a carry-case. sorry.

Sorry Piglet, the link didn't work. Try this one. (Rymans this time)

I think I saw the same one in Staples for a fiver or so less.

That one seems shallow enough to fit under a worktop (or possibly inside a 500mm kitchen cabinet though it will be very heavy when full)

The width is 413mm, same as mine, and it takes the manila wallets with ease.

I occasionally get American Legal size papers, which don't fit.

It says it is not anti-tilt so will fall forwards if you open both drawers at the same time. This will be tiresome if it crushes your foot or cat.

Thanks Pigletjohn! Reading the reviews I am not sure it will be sturdy enough. It will only have normal home filing uses (so I imagine not much use!) but would hate to buy something flimsy . I think I need to find one in a store somewhere....
