tablecloth/mat/runner advice please

Hi, have bought a lovely tablecloth in a sale and wondered if anyone can tell me what the etiquette is to also use matching cloth tablemats, runners and napkins? thanks!

Contrasting, surely.

White cloths are good because then it's easy to have sets of mats and napkins including joyfully naff Christmas ones that go.

If you have a table protector under the cloth I wouldn't bother with placemats. We have a white cloth and matching napkins or use placemats and various different napkins.
