washer dryer advice - smelly

My Samsung washer dryer is really smelly. It's 2 years old, had been working fine, used to do 2-3 loads a week with ariel liquid and comfort.

Since DD was born 4 months ago I've been doing 2 washes most days, using the dryer more, and using Fairy and Comfort Pure for her clothes .

I've used Dr Beckmanns this week, no good. Got ariel powder, no good. Dettol washing machine cleaner, no good. I've cleaned the seal and the drawer well, and it'd running now with an egg cup full of bleach on hot.

I have vinegar and soda crystals to try next. And other suggestions? How much vinegar/soda crystals should I use? I'm going to fix this today! I am sick of DD and I smelling damp and musty! I don't have time to cuddle DH any more, but I imagine he smells funky too!

Hmm. Dr beckmanns usually does the job for me. Have you checked the filter? If it's same/similar to my Samsung there's a little square panel on the bottom right at the front, ease it off and clean that out. YouTube will show you how if can't work it out.
I also try to leave the door ajar after a load to let it dry out.

I did that wee filter last week too, but there's no point in all these boil washes if it's gunked up, so I just did it again. A lot of water came out. Is this normal? It smelt nice and fresh and clean though - instead of the usual rotten eggs!

lots of water in the filter is normal.
many washers have an extra pipe thingy for extra drainage near the filter.

do you leave the door and drawer open between washes?

Did you take the drawer out and clean the bit it fits into? The holes in the roof of the compartment can get clogged up with gunk too. I use bleach spray and an old toothbrush to clean them and then wipe out with a cloth

Here is me, da Boff, on Superscrimpers doing the deed with my own washing machine. It might be helpful.

Can I point out I have lost a stone since that film clip and I have better hair ;.)

ditch liquids and start using powder. Liquids often cause mould build up in the outter tub.

The bleach helped a lot, and I washed towels on hot with vinegar in the drum and more in the conditioner bit of the drawer, and tumbled my vinegary towels. They smell gorgeous! Not vinegary, just lovely and fresh. Hopefully the weather is good tomorrow to get the backlog of washing out on the line!!

Thanks for your help everyone. I watched your video Boff and it inspired me to google further and work out how to clean the filter PROPERLY, and I'll be doing that more often!!

Good vid, but I would add a cup of washing soda crystals to the hot hot hot wash
