Blood stain on carpet

My cat brought a rabbit in to eat on our carpet (lovely hey?) ... Unfortunately my husband got to the stain first and tried to 'scrub it off' leaving a rusty stain...I have tried numerous applications of vanish powder which has worked to fade it quite well, but it's definitely still there. Any ideas?

Sainsbury's carpet cleaner (blue bottle) got a lovely orange cat sick stain out of my cream carpet. Worth a try?
