sticky wooden cupboards in new rental

Any recommendations for cleaning the kitchen cupboards which were obviously never wiped once, by the previous tenants?

I have tried washing up liquid and scouring them. Minimal effect.

Suggestions please, if you can!

Unpleasant for you. I would use a solution of Sugar Soap, which you find in home decorating section of Homebase or similar. It's not expensive and you mix in with water to degrease surfaces. It's usually used before decorating, painting or papering, but excellent for cleaning in these circumstances. Hard on the hands though so wear some waterproof gloves.

Try those magic eraser sponges, or white spirit (a bit smelly though)

Sugar soap is brilliant for just this and I use it for cleaning our kitchen. You can buy it ready mixed in a trigger spray too - it's yellow.

Yep second sugar soap. Also useful for removing nicotine stains from walls/ceilings (because renting is great).

Thank you!

If they really are wood (rather than wood effect) then try Pledge soapy wood cleaner. It's much nicer than sugar soap.

Wearyheadedlady · 28/08/2015 17:11

Mintyy. Yes they are wood. Old, but wood.

The soapy wood cleaner should work fine then.

Flowers for you, it is SUCH a chore to have to clean everything when you move house.

YY, especially as the LL probably charged the previous tenant a couple of hundred quid for a professional clean

wowfudge · 29/08/2015 08:41

Actually Faded, I doubt it: so many people are only bothered that places look superficially clean.

When I moved into my rental house I got a company cleaning to help me out. Now I've got them every 2weeks.They give me every 4th clean free .So I will recommend you someone to help you Smile

That sticky film of grease you get in kitchens is really hard to clean off. I've found Fairy Power Spray works very well when other cleaners don't touch it.
