We're tried all those horrible chemically drain cleaners and we've tried a plunger but it still takes roughly about 6 years for the bathroom sink to drain any water and it's reaaaalllly getting on my tits.
anyone have any tips?

Unscrew the P trap and clear it out.

Wear rubber gloves, and a clothes peg on your nose though!

If it still won't drain then you need a plumber

erm, the P trap? (can you tell i'm not very handy with things like this?!)

under the basin, there should be a bit that looks like this

Put a bucket or bowl underneath, and unscrew the knurled bit. It may be very stiff, and you might need a mole wrench or something- I think you can get a proper wrench for this job at B+Q- my dh has one. I used a gadget for uunscrewing jars that seemed to work!

should add, that you need to unscrew BOTH knurled bits at either end of the curved bit of pipe, otherwise it won't come off!

we had one of these and did all the off the shelf stuff and ended up getting a plumber round

who went to the local DIY store and bought a bottle of hydrochloric acid for £5 and then .. extremely carefully .. tipped it in .. and like magic it cleared with a disgusting smell

he said to do that next time because thats the best way to clear it

hth

and be EXTREMELY careful

Twiglett · 27/11/2006 08:58

oh you leave it for 30 minutes then tip hot water down too

if you do it with acid PLEASE make sure you open the windows WIDE while your doing it !
