DS had a seizure and bled on his favourite cap

He had a seizure right at the top of his climbing frame, fell and cut his head open Sad

He's bled all over his favourite cap and I can't find a replacement! How do you get blood out of caps?

Try cold salt water. I learnt that when I started my periods and would have accidents. Although it does work better if blood hasn't dried in, it can still work.

Nonnainglese · 26/08/2015 07:01

Stain Devils from the supermarket takes most stains out of anything.

SoupDragon · 26/08/2015 07:35

Sunlight often does a wonderful job.

Good luck with finding any though!

Hurr1cane · 26/08/2015 08:05

Thank you. It has dried on as he was rushed straight to hospital. I'll try it all

soak in cold water with bio powder for a few hours. then wash as normal.

winchester1 · 26/08/2015 08:11

My partner hunts and gets blood on clothes all the time we just chuck it in the wash with normal powder and a bit of vanish its never been a problem.

hazeyjane · 26/08/2015 08:19

I hope ds is ok, how frightening.

If you are worried about sticking the cap in the wash, I always wash dh's work baseball caps in the washing machine with bio washing powder and they come out fine.

Maybe bio washing powder + a stain remover.

What sort of cap is it - maybe there is a lovely mumsnetter with one floating around?

BishopBrennansArse · 26/08/2015 08:21

Ace bleach. Got some from Savers.

Chrysanthemum5 · 26/08/2015 08:24

Make a paste of salt and water then rub it over the stain most of the blood should come out. Then rinse/wash to remove the last of the blood

Bunbaker · 26/08/2015 08:25

I thought salt set stains rather than removed them.

just be careful with any bleachy stain removers if it is a coloured cap - I created a bleach mark in the shape of an arse on one of dh's hats - you really don't want to do this!

Gymbunny1204 · 26/08/2015 08:40

Salt and cold water works.

IlPorcupinoNilSodomyEst · 26/08/2015 08:48

I second Bishop Brennan's suggestion of Ace bleach - it won't take the colour out of the fabric, but the blood will bubble up in a foam and you can wash it out with cold water. Hope your DS is feeling better soon Flowers

sonata1 · 26/08/2015 09:10

Soak in cold water then apply Ace.I use it in my everyday washing along with the powder. Only £1 in Superdrug and the pound type shops. Don't pay any more (like double) in the supermarkets.

Ohfourfoxache · 26/08/2015 09:14

The enzymes in saliva break blood down - spit on it!

Hope Ds is ok Thanks

Hurr1cane · 26/08/2015 10:56

Thanks everyone I'm going to try them all. It's an adult cap, a tyco Suzuki flat peak cap. I've looked at all the shopping links and Google and can't find them, only a couple of over priced used signed ones on eBay Sad

OP posts:
Hurr1cane · 26/08/2015 10:56

He's not an adult by the way Grin his cap is just an adults cap. Children's are always too small for his head

Micah · 26/08/2015 11:00

Salt soak first- it breaks the red blood cells up.

Then bio washing powder at 35 ish degrees, the enzymes will break down the rest.

It will come out :)

I wouldn't try bleach except as a last resort.

SurelyYoureJokingMrFeynman · 26/08/2015 11:36

Yy, bio washing powder at a low temperature should sort it out. (Hot water cooks the blood in.)

Soak and handwash if you're worried about it surviving in the machine.

Bleach is a last resort.

Hope the head is recovering as well as the cap.Shock

Hurr1cane · 26/08/2015 12:48

Thanks everyone. I couldn't get to the shops but I had salt in and tried that and it was magic! A couple of minutes and it was coming out, then I soaked it and it seems to be ok, and clean.

It's just hanging out drying now and then I'll check it properly.

How ace is salt though? This week I've used it to kill weeds as well! Thanks so much everyone

Hurrah.

Hope hat-owner doing OK, too.

Minisoksmakehardwork · 26/08/2015 16:44

Yay!

Hurr1cane · 26/08/2015 20:25

Yup definitely all clean! DP is really impressed by the power of salt Grin
