Would a candle at a window keep smoke out?

Neighbour smokes beside my kitchen window. I dont want to be rude and close it every time she is there but also she is there a lot so it would mean running back and forth opening and closing.

Would burning a candle keep the smell out or is there something else i can do?

Also, why is this section not called good housekeeping anymore?

The person in the flat below us does this, fills our whole flat if we're not careful! Candles don't stop smells, but we close window, light candle to kill it off a bit, and reopen a while later.

Do you know them? Could you (nicely) ask them not to?

I do know her and she is lovely, I would never say anything as she is a fantastic neighbour and would hate to upset her. Her back door is right beside my window and thats where she sits. Ive closed the window before but its an awkward thing and you really need to pull it which means it slams shut and comes across as me being really PA. Not my intention at all. My house seems to need the windows open constantly as well. Smells seems to gravitate to my living room and its a small house. I'll try the candle anyway and see how it goes.

My neighbour does this too, I tend to just shut the window but it is annoying.

btw I think it's not called Good Housekeeping any more because the mag of the same name complained...

i close my windows when the neighbour below cooks on her bbq. I'm not being rude , she's allowed to bbq and i'm allowed not to have to smell it. agree it's annoying , but that's communal living.
