Clean smelling house

Has anyone got any tips for Making my house smell nice without using air fresheners etc. Think big smelly dog and toilet training puppy

Windows open as much as possible.

I made some little stuffed fabric hearts with hanging loops. I put a few drops of my favourite oils on them (lemongrass at the moment, as it's really zingy and fresh), and hang them around the house - bathroom, hallway, wardrobe, etc.
I refresh the oil about every 2 weeks and it's lovely!

Same theory as StEdmundsPippins but plain old balls of cotton wool with a few drops of essential oils on placed in the tops of radiators are good as well.

Wash everything including curtains, windows, floors etc. Open windows. Keep bedding and towels clean. Hoover and mop floors everyday.

Every so often I Hoover up a pile of washing powder- then every time I Hoover afterwards the house smells gorgeous!

I also dry out water wipes and then soak them in fabric softner and put them in the radiators. smells beautiful in the winter!!

oooh and zoflora when I mop, the spring bouquet one, lots of it! The smell of it lasts hours after you do it

Thanks everyone, the windows are open constantly. I might try the hovering up the washing powder as I do think my Hoover smells. Love zoflora so will stock up on that too.

bicarb on the carpet, leave for as long as poss and hoover thoroughly to remove smells

this stuff smells amazing too-it's sprays like a light foam and is absorbed by carpets, curtains, cushions etc. I use it after I Hoover and on all my throw cushions and rugs etc

Open windows whenever possible.
No carpets / fabric sofas for stink to cling to.
Mop floors regularly. I do mine thoroughly once a week with a quick whizz through pretty much every day.
Curtains and cushions washed regularly.
Another vote for zoflora - the smell lasts ages.

And I always have the back door open (weather permitting) when I'm in the house. Obviously not practical for everyone though.

Don't do this if you have a Miele cat and dog vaccum cleaner. The static electric shock it'll cause would be strong.

I open all windows for at least half an hour a day. Longer if possible. I also use anti bacterial floor wipes on the hard floors which smell very fresh, I guess any floor product would do the same thing. Wash any soft furnishings the dogs have had contact with. Change their bedding regularly. Maybe have any carpets shampooed.

Really, fresh air is the best thing for getting rid of smells.

The Miele cat and dog, static shock thing goes for bicarb powder too (and flour and talc...). God only knows why they've made a vacuum cleaner that can't cope with powdery stuff but there's a warning about it in the instruction book that some people like me might miss so thought I'd better say just in case. It's a fab cleaner otherwise.

Zoflora. Our cleaner used to use it and we'd come home to a beautifully clean smelling and tidy house. It was bliss.

I've started using zoflora and I've noticed a big difference, I don't have pets so the house never smelled before but note it actually does smell of something and it smells lush

Another vote for Zoflora, I also use it in washing to kill bacteria when you wash on low temperatures.

Scented candles leave a lingering smell as well.

Put a few drops of essential oil on cotton wool and put it inside your Hoover bag. When you Hoover it will release a lovely fresh smell. I use sweet orange or lemongrass. It smells like you've just washed the floor even if you haven't. Refresh every few days. Perfick.

Wax lyrical reed diffusers. The citrus ones are brilliant.
