How to remove plastic taste from water bottles/straws?

Am due to have a elcs soon and saw a few people on here recommended the Hydrant water bottle and straw for hospital stays, it looked fab so I bought it! However, the plastic tube/straw makes the water taste foul, really plastic-y. Any mumsnet cleaning experts know how to get rid of this? Currently I've tried flushing it with hot water, hot soapy water, and as a last resort, I poured some left over red wine (from cooking!) into it and have left it to sit, in the hopes that at least I might taste something that isn't plastic!
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Try a solution of bicarbonate of soda

Try a tablespoon - I have no idea what volume your bottle is btw. But that should be sufficiently strong enough. You could use warm water. Leave it overnight or for 24 hours then empty out and rinse well. Bicarb is a good neutraliser.
