Forgot damp laundry in tumble dryer

A few days ago, there wasn't room on my line for every bit of laundry, so I put the dryable things in the dryer - and then forgot about them.

I've opened the dryer just now and found them. The clothes reek, the dryer reeks - kind of like old cabbage - ugh!

I'm going to rewash the laundry and use laundry disinfectant in the hope I get rid of any nasties - but I don't know what do do about the dryer which still smells too. It hasn't heated to it's full capacity for quite a while, so if I run it empty it won't heat hot enough to kill any bacteria. How can I get it useable again?

Thanks for any tips

Wipe it with a mild solution of Milton or Napisan? Run a few old towels through until it's sorted?

I'd run the dryer empty for a timed period on full heat to burn the smell away or like Carpe said, run a load of towels through it.

I'd throw some fragranced dryer sheets in too.
