feng shui thread - join in and share your experiences / questions etc

I'm not sure if this is in the right part of the site but it seemed the most apt...

I was on another thread the other day about hobbies, and said feng shui was mine and a handful of people expressed interest in it, so thought I would start a thread.

A lot of people think it's mumbo jumbo (apologies in advance to you lot!) but where I have made real efforts to change things in line with the "rules" of feng shui it has really helped me to turn my life around in many areas (whether that's a placebo effect, some sort of brain / environment changing link or something a bit deeper / more mystical) so I think it's well worth pursuing for anyone that way inclined or who might want to address a particular issue in their life by trying it.

So anyone with a vague interest in feng shui is welcome to share their experiences here and feedback to each other with what they have done and if it had any effects, or ask questions etc.

Most of it is very practical (such as decluttering, organising, fixing broken things etc) but there are other things you can do to address certain issues or enhance areas of your life (such as pimping out your "wealth corner" etc) which seem to have had a big impact for me. I tend to avoid the massively superstitious ideas and go down a more intuitive route while loosely following the rules.

Anyway - all interested, please join! :-) I'd be really interested to hear if anyone else does any feng shui and has noticed any changes in their life since doing it. Tips etc welcome.

I'd be happy to answer any questions I can although I am in no way an expert or professional, just read up a fair bit on it and been doing it a while. Would also be interested to ask others their advice too.

yes I get that strange correlation thing going on too, it is odd isn't it!

when i started getting into feng shui i realised my relationship corner (kitchen) had a box of mouldy veg in it that had been there ages (busy new mother so such things were not my priority at that time!), I was having awful rows with my ex (in fact breaking up) at the time...slightly different to your situation but it can't have been helping!!

Another time I stored a load of paperwork in the kitchen relationship area and things went tits up with that (relationship related too).

have you got any way of sorting out the office etc? Have you thought about moving it elsewhere in the house? that might be impractical but you could do a few things to make it a bit more 'relationship' friendly - move out the DIY stuff, put up a few nice pics of you and your DH looking happy in there...

the tracking of spending thing is really interesting, as like you note, the leaky plumbing can be indicative of wealth flowing away...

i've been feeling really rough the last week or two and have realised i have a dirty old rug under my sofa I have been meaning to chuck for a while (this is in my health zone). Must get to it.

The key with the feng shui stuff is also that there is no good place for junk or broken stuff or bad etc as it will impact that area of your life negatively or other areas by proxy. So if you get into it, eventually your whole environment will be clear of junk if you keep at it, and it can be a good way of cross referencing your present life and what's going on and even trying to influence it positively through changes made in the relevant areas.

God I can waffle on about this stuff, can't I!.

In our wealth corner we have a BBQ! Is that like having 'money to burn'?

Crikeyblimey · 21/08/2015 18:42

Just moved into a new house and our wealth area is the kitchen. I'll counteract the sink issue with something upwardly pointy on the windowsill. Our relationship area is part of the family room, the under stairs cupboard and the utility room!!! Eeek! I had those areas designated for 'stuff'. Maybe I need some nice art on the utility wall??

ziggyziggy · 21/08/2015 21:43

hello people!

haveaweenap - goodness I am not sure on that one. Is the BBQ inside the house? I think the bagua generally refers to inside the house so if outside would think it's ok but that said you could try moving it if you're having issues. It might mean you are burning up your money quickly or something like that (?). Also the financial / wealth area is "wood" so anything representing fire symbolically would burn / destroy the wood element needed here so not sure it would be great there. Afraid my knowledge does not extend so far with this one but I would say analyse your current financial situation and think about the BBQ accordingly within that context and if you think it is helping / hindering. If there are issues try moving it elsewhere.

crikey - yes you might want to do something about storage in your relationship area...i guess if the stuff is nice and organised and not cluttering too much (not stuffed in!) then that's a bonus. Also there's no good place for junk or too much stored stuff in feng shui as clutter will have a negative effect anywhere so make sure it's all "loved" or useful stuff that's not packed to the rafters (get rid of anything that you are not sure about). Offset it with some nice images. Make sure it's regularly cleaned out. With regards to the utility room - is it things like fridges and freezers, washing machines etc? With cold stuff (fridges and freezers) you can put images of hot stuff (romantic sunset maybe?) to "warm them up" and avoid freezing out your relationships (mentioned earlier I think in thread). Just ensure the area stays nice and clean and put some happy families pics up or something like you say. Anything to offset or soften the domesticity vibe a bit (you don't want rows about the housework)...! Also bear in mind it's 1/9th of a grid placed over the whole house so you might have some of another room to work with depending on how it stretches.

Thanks.

We de-cluttered like mad before moving but the utility houses the washer / dryer / cleaning stuff / paper waiting to he shredded / spare light bulbs / ironing pile / cat litter tray and cat food. The 9th of the house does cover some of the family room which has a lovely sideboard / fab new rug / massive (Nottingham choice) tv and some of my family heirlooms (pewter plates and stuff). I shall endeavour to keep the utility tidy. It is really functional though so I guess so long as it doesn't become a dumping ground, it does represent the functional / working part of our home.

Crikeyblimey · 21/08/2015 23:34

Not my choice - nothing to do with Nottingham!!!
