Pillow case instead of a laundry bag in washing machine?

A friend has given me a dress which says to use a laundry bag when washing. Could I use a pillow instead? Thanks.

I would have thought that would be fine. Maybe pin the open end closed with a couple of safety pins? I think the point of laundry bags is to stop delicate items being flung around the washing machine, so a pillow case would probably achieve the same result.

Yes, I've been doing that to wash delicates for years.

I put all my bras and delicates in a pillowcase - as instructed by my mum 40 years ago. My DD always uses laundry bags though - has had hers for a few years but with me the laundry bags always seem to get snagged or the zips break

Thanks for all your replies. A pillow case it will be.
