I have decided I would love a slow cooker, but have no idea what sort of dishes I could cook in it.

So, please post your fabulous slow cooker recipes here, to inspire me!!

Also, links to slow-cooker-recipe sites are welcome too!!!

Thanks in advance.

No idea about actual slow cooker recipes but i do a lovely steak and kidney stew with dumplings in ours. Basically toss the steak and kidney in seaoned flour and brown in a pan. Add onions and stock (and mushrooms or other veg if you like but dh and the children don't). Bring to boil stirring till sauce thickens. Add worcestershire sauce and seasoning to taste and then leave in the slow cooker. I usually leave ours for 4-5 hours and then add the dumplings for the last 1/2 hour.

I just use ordinary recipes but use less stock and at least 6 hours cooking time

Chestnut and mushroom stroganoff

1 tbsp olive oil
1 oz butter
1 large onion, sliced
1 clove garlic
12 oz chestnut mushrooms
240g can chestnuts
half pint veg stock
splash soy sauce
1 tbsp mustard
2 tbsp creme fraiche

Fry onions and garlic in oil and butter, add stock, bring to boil. Put mushrooms and chestnuts in casserole slow cooker, add onions and stock and soy sauce. Cook for about 4 or 5hrs. Add mustard and creme fraiche at the end.

I've just posted a couple of good websites on this thread

hope they help!

My slow cooker cost a tenner from Argos, keep an eye out for it, they reduce it in price all the time!

i do lovely beef and vegetable and chicken and mushroom casseroles in mine.

just chop all the ingredients and chuck it in with some seasoning and wine if you like.

i do a fabulous pork, apple and cider goulash which is a bit more refined ie: i toss the pork in seasoned flour (with paprika etc) and seal it in the pan before adding ingredients into the slow cooker. finish it off with a big dollop of creme fraiche. serve with veg and roasties.

i'd love to hear a "recipe" for doing rice in my slow cooker - i believe that's a really good way to do it but have no idea how.

hth

ps: can you tell i love my own cooking LOL!

I love my slow cooker, great food with minimum effort! I do Sausage and Tomato Casserole quite frequently and am about to go and do Pot Roast Beef Brisket in it for tomorrows lunch.

Sausage and Tomato Casserole (sorry it's a bit vague, I mostly don't measure stuff when I cook!)

1 Pack Sausages
1 can chopped plum tomatoes
1 onion, diced
1 can chick peas, drained
1 can cannellini beans, drained
some dried herbs (thyme, mixed, whatever you've got really)

Brown the sausages in a fry pan, add the rest of the ingredients and heat through. chuck it all in a pre-heated slow cooker with 200mls (or so) of boiling water and cook on medium for 3-4 hours. serve with rice.
