Maggots

Can anyone advise me my wheeliebin is full of maggots its that bad they was trying move in my house there was hundreds tried boiling water and bleach but nothing any ideas x

I opened the bin lid and the sparrows and starlings ate the lot. It was like a feeding frenzy. Alternatively if the bin is empty lay it on its side and hedgehogs will do the job for you.

you need to keep it clean. If even one fly gets in and finds delicious nourishing food, it will lay eggs.

I hose mine out after it has been emptied, and turn it upside down to dry in the sun. My neighbour doesn't, and hers stinks and has resident liquid and is infested with flies and maggots.

If you wrap food waste, it will be harder for flies to reach. Potato peelings for some reason rot down and produce smelly bin-juice. If you wrap moist food in newspaper it will help absorb the juice.

Yes, birds will eat any maggots you tip out. One way is to throw a bucket of water in, shake it about, and tip it on the ground.

I don't believe that bleach and disinfectant are as much good as simply washing out the food waste that the maggots eat.
