Laminate Flooring and Dogs

I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with the amount of mess there is because of dog hairs.
They are everywhere. I can hoover and use those floor wipes and within the hour the floor looks as though the house has been left to rot for decades.

What do you all do? Is there some miracle floor cleaning stuff that repels dog hair or am I living in cuckoo land in denial when really what I need is new flooring?

the only thing that i found was to brush the dog alot. just think they would be in your carpet.

SparklyfestiveYellowFeathers · 21/11/2006 19:48

At least I wouldnt see it as much on a carpet

I'd say you need to brush your dog alot, particularly if he/she is moulting now.
Long hair or short hair?

The problem with laminate is that I find their nails tapping on it as they walk around extremely annoying after a while.
We have a stone floor and that's pretty annoying too so have to keep her nails trimmed short.

SparklyfestiveYellowFeathers · 21/11/2006 19:53

Well he's a Beagle so he is short haired but regardless of the season, he moults sooo much. It ridiculous really.
I suppose its worse atm because we bathed him the other day but even so.

Yes the claws tapping are annoying. Hilarious when he slides on it though

What colour is your laminate
Our floor is quite dark (it's oak not laminate) and I don't really notice the hair against it.

I take it you groom the dog daily to get rid of excess hair?

greenday · 21/11/2006 20:13

I hated my dogs hair on the carpet. It was more annoying for me to have to hoover it up than to just sweep the laminate floor in our kitchen. I used to have to sweep about twice a day and the floor was always dirty.

twinsetandpearls · 21/11/2006 20:22

We are gradually getting rid of all our carpeting because of the dog, the draw back of a laminate floor is the noise they make trotting about the house. Drives me mad.

brimfull · 21/11/2006 20:25

ah you see,
you all need to return your moulting dogs for a non moulter like my beardie.nahnahnahnahnah!

greenday · 21/11/2006 20:40

I keep saying the same thing on these 'pets' thread .. so forgive me if I sound like a broken record. I used to get annoyed with my dog's constant trotting about the house. It would wake me up in the middle of the night and the number of times I cursed under my breath! But since we had to put her to sleep 2 months ago, I miss her so much. I would gladly bear her trotting noises if I could only have her back.

Gingerbear · 21/11/2006 20:42

I hoovered Max the other day - with the Cat n Dog vacuum, set on 'low suction' he loved it!
Have you got one of those soft laminate cloth on a stick thingies? Pick up better than wipes.

Gingerbear · 21/11/2006 20:44

He also skids around on laminate like Bambi.
When he sits, his front paws slide from under him, so you feel obliged to wedge your feet against his paws to stop him dislocating something vital.

SparklyfestiveYellowFeathers · 21/11/2006 21:48

LOL, Yes thats what hes like
He does get brushed but not daily. The laminate is dark too so maybe it shows more.
Tbh the mess annoys me more than the noise.

I use one of those sticks and then use Mr Sheen floor wipes with orange something or other in to make it shiny.
