How will I ever get the plaster dust out of my house?

Having major building work at home at the moment. Whole house is covered in thick plaster dust despite dust sheets etc. We already had to have our dyson repaired after the past lot of building work as the plaster dust is so fine it totally clogged the filter and engine. I've noticed that builders seem to use the Henry vacuum cleaners - does anyone have one of these? Is it because they are just tougher than other cleaners? Or are they designed for building mess? I don't really want to get in professional cleaners for the carpets as we are planning to replace them sometime next year. Any suggestions?

My Dyson survived a large extension 4 years ago plus a decorator who was very thorough with the preparation and was working here for 5 weeks!
But it's a DC04, which is less prone to dust damage than earlier models - my DC01 only lasted 5 years in total.
I should think the 'Henry' types are just easier to lug around.
The dust lingers for about 6 months but there does come a day when you don't find any lurking in hidden corners!

Hire a carpet shampooer, and buy a cheap second hand hoover to blitz the house.

I thought about a carpet shampooer, but then I worried that it would just turn the dust to wet plaster! I guess it prob doesn't work like that. Maybe a cheapo hoover that it doesn't matter if it's totalled will do the trick.

We have a hoover bought from b&q specifically for building work as we also wrecked our last dyson hoovering up plaster dust.

can't remember exactly but think they are about £35 and just suck up everything, bits of rubble the lot!!

We ruined our dyson with plasterdust too...even a trip to our excellent vacuum repair man couldn't save it. Our builders had a Henry too - it can't just be for the smiley face.

I think there's a big brother to the Henry - might be a 'George' or something like that.
