Does anyone have any idea of how to get black engine oil out of beige carpet? (Don't you just love it when they DIY to save money )

Don't have any helpful advice - we ended up claiming on household insurance when DH got expandable foam on our stairs & landing carpets.

Mop as much as you can with paper towels. Then personally I'd try Dr Beckmann oil remover

Whilst your in a rage, pull the carpet up. It will take 5 mins max, i speak from experience

If it's the odd spot I'd try but if you may want to claim on the insurance then you are best to do NOTHING and ring them straightaway as they may insist on using their own cleaning specialists first!

As others have said, if you try to clean it before claiming on insurance they can refuse your claim. It will state in your policy you must notify them of any damages immediately. I worked in insurance for a long time and claims were often refused on that basis.

I suspect any claim by the OP would also be refused on the grounds that you shouldn't be doing engine repair (or whatever it was) inside the house without adequate precautions. I'm sure there would be small print somewhere.

Contact a professional carpet cleaner - don't try anything yourself before you have spoken to them. I had someone walk oil across a living room carpet and up the stairs. Carpet cleaning man got it out for £30.
