What is this clip thing on my iron cord for?

I think that it's got sometimes to do with holding or storing the cable but I can't figure out how!
Anyone?

I think it's to keep the cord tidy when you've wound it around the lower half of the iron?

Yes when you've wrapped your cord around the iron you clip it onto the cord thats wound so that the plug isn't flailing about.

It's this iron which doesn't have an obvious bit to wind the cable around at the bottom (or does it?).

SecretSpy my vacuum cleaner has a retractable cable!

I had that iron you wind the cord on the "waist" part. That flat plain area where the soleplate ends but theres a good few inches of plastic that the iron stands up on.
