Calagon tablets

RedandYellow24 · 26/06/2015 16:50

My washing machine is 3y old but I live in a hard water area, judging by how much line scale I get in the kettle I dare to imagine what washing pipes are like.

So do I
A- carry on till it dies
B- start using calagon tablets hope they do something (every wash)
C- use something else now and again?

I've don't use Calgon but washing soda - which does the same job at a fraction of the cost. I think I would start using it now as at least it should stop more building up - don't know if it will help get rid of lime scale that is already there but someone else might know.

Thanks, when I see the adverts I always think oh oh (guessing that's the point!) but don't know if will do any good if already half blocked anyway!

A.

Or do a really hot wash with about 10 bottles of smart price vinegar or citric acid powder in there and let that take the limescale off.

I normally use cheap own brand for about 3 boxes then 1 box of calgon. Also use a washing machine cleaner every couple of months.

take the money you would have wasted spent on Calgon, and put it in a piggy bank. Put it towards the cost of a replacement washer, or a water softener which you will bless forever.

IIRC Calgon is one of the products that "Which" challenged the manufacturers to provide evidence that it did any good. IIRC they didn't.
