DFS leather sofa problem

Hi, just want to know if I'm being unreasonable- leather sofa, dark reddy- brown, not quite 2 years old, electric recliner so not cheap.

Over the seams and one the creases caused by sitting on it, the clour of the leather has worn away, leaving bright orange patches.

I've just rang company to see if someone can come and havea look, which they have arranged, but was told "leather does lose it's colour.
It looks awful.

anyone had this problem? any idea how I can improve it if they won't?

We did. They sent someone out who said it was quite common and sprayed it with dye and set it with a heat gun

It looked fab!

2 days later it started to wear away again Angry

DFS leather sofa is not likely to be real leather, more likely to be some sort of bonded leather. 2 years is probably good going for it.

We bought a leather sofa from ebay which was worn... its not dfs, but sofa workshop. Anyway I bought some specialist leather dye from Amazon, used it with a lot of rubbing and a couple of layers of the dye, then used a leather polish on top and its not exactly brand new looking but then leather sofas aren't meant to look new are they! It still looks good 9 months and a lot of use later....

I had this with a black leather sofa from DFS after a short while (think it was weeks) small patches of the dye rubbed off to reveal a red colour underneath. Cue much palaver with DFS who said it was the buttons from our jeans among other excuses, in the end we sent them back and ordered another leather suite which was double the price and we've still got them 12 years later and the leather is still perfect.
The first sofas must have been a poor quality sprayed leather or something.

Our chocolate leather (not a MN favourite) DFS sofa is 11 years old this year and still perfect.

I had the same happen on a thousand pound electric recliner in russet orange. DFS argued at first then sent a guy around to try to fix it. What had happened is the 3 piece was a natural leather colour underneath and had obviously been sprayed with some rubber based dye and this was coming off in pieces. He basically cleaned it, I had already done that and bought their leather care kit at a high price for what is basically a bunch of wet wipes.
He then got the coloured dye and put a pipe in it and another to his mouth and then proceeded to spray the huge areas with the air from his lungs.
You don’t need to be mystic meg to know this was a bodge job.
I always though DFS were supposed to be one of the best quality companies in leather furniture making.
I wasted £2,300 on a sofa, chair, electric recliner and footstool.
The footstool hasn’t ever been sat on yet that is now peeling.
I feel like I have been mugged. It really is an awful situation to be in and not one I can remedy quickly. I am trying out come chalk paint next and will report how it went.
Customer services basically tried to blame me for using it with a belt on and even jeans.
Terrible company and unless you buy a neutral and uncoloured set then watch out as it WILL peel and flake. I know of 3othwrs just on my road, with the same problems
Perhaps stay away from coloured leather products until they can actually make the furniture from leather that is made in that colour, like shoes are ?
I’m furious but I was not aware others had the same problems on such a large scale. Taking to twitter and hash tagging #DFS will get their attention. For sure
