How do I clean sick off the sofa?

My DS threw up all over my friend's sofa... The label says do not use dry cleaning solvents and do not wash... just to dab gently with upholstery cleaner. Sadly, it's beyond any sort of "gentle dabbing". Any ideas? Thought about putting the covers through my washing machine on the handwash setting (cold). HELP!

i put my sofa coveres on a 30C cotton wash (they are made of cotton) and they are FINE

mine didnt even really need washing, i just wanted to freshen them up!

Thank you! I will cross everything and give it a go. I know they are always über-careful with washing instructions, etc but thanks for the reassurance. xxx

Try making up a paste of bicarbonate of soda mixed with water. Rub in gently. Leave to dry then shake it all out and vacuum over the top. Takes the smell away.

Brilliant! Cheers. I should have known that really. Bicarb. seems to be the answer to everything. It's what I use to get whiffy smells out of bottles which have been hanging around too long (half an inch of milk left in the bottle under the carseat - you know what I mean!). Will try that and, if that fails, wash them in the machine.

Let us know if it works!

Hi Hotandbothered,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner but my PC has been out of action for a while. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for the help. It did work and the covers are back on my friend's sofa, safe and sound.

Thanks again x
