Good product for removing carpet stains?

Our living room carpet has a few subtle stains, and a few not so subtle. I just tried using this overpriced Vanish carpet cleaner powder and it's absolute rubbish, it literally did nothing.

Any suggestions on good products? I don't mind if it needs a few applications as long as it gets the job done.

I've found 1001 stain remover good in the past.

If they are old marks you might be as well to get the whole carpet professionally cleaned - it isn't very expensive and they have the equipment that makes light work of something like this.

Another vote for 1001 foam cleaner. It worked well on spilt tea which DC had left on my new rug.

Thumbs up for 1001! Much better than any thing on the market or you could try and damping the stain and put baking soda or bicarbonate of soda on, let it dry and vacuum off, usually works as good.
