Hob advice please

I am getting a new kitchen (stealth boast lol) I have always had a gas hob up until now. However I would prefer the look and ease to clean of a glass top hob so I can either go for induction or ceramic. Please tell me which is best and why. Having no experience of either I am stumped! Thanks.

My induction hob is great. Responsive, very fast (I can boil a pot of cold water quicker than my kettle), cleans really easily. But make sure you get the right one as I hear some are not as fast as others (ours is a Bosch, but even within Bosch range there is some different reviews).

You will probably need new pans that are compatible. Also important to get right ones, my Tefal induction pans are cheaper but shite and slow, but my heavy based Circulon pans (which I got before my induction hob when I got married 13 years ago) are compatible and brilliant.

I've never had ceramic, but heard they can be more difficult to clean as the hob heats up (with induction its the pan that heats not the hob) and spills can get baked on/need a scraper to get off.

Both are not ideal if you like wok/stir frys and shoogling pans about on the top as they might scratch and don't heat up the sides of a wok. Some people have induction and a single gas ring.

I always had gas hobs, until we moved and i inherited an induction hob.
I wanted to hate it, but i love it, so quick to heat and sooo easy to clean.
When i redo my kitchen and induction hob will be going in

I've had both. Ceramic is slow, unresponsive and a pain to get clean if you burn stuff on.

Induction is brilliant. As quick/quicker than gas. A doddle to clean because it's almost impossible to burn stuff on to it. I love my induction hob.

Inductions are fab, very cool so nothing sticks but very responsive.

You can get stainless steel pans in ikea or tk maxx cheaply.

I agree with all of the comments about induction hobs. I would never go back to gas now. So easy to keep clean and very responsive. I bought saucepans suitable for induction from Dunelm Mill.

I have induction after 35 years using gas. Wasnt sure I'd like it but it's great. It's a Neff and I got a set of german pans with it for free and I've supplemented those with a couple of frying pans. Use ceramic in our regular apartment abroad and too be honest its pretty good too - it's a Zannusi.

I moved into a house with an induction hob.

now have a gas hob (LPG bottle outside). Far more responsive, easier to use and far less cleaning as I can set it so things don't boil over. Oh, and the cost of the gas is less than the electricity that it was using. When it does need cleaning - two mins max, rather than endless scrubbing.

I HATE electric cooking. This is a marmite situation but make sure you actually like an electric hob before changing. Function before form.

it is a place to cook food and how it looks doesn't matter.

Ceramic hobs (glass with orange element) have slow heating and cooling times which annoys me dreadfully. I would certainly not chhose one in my own home.
Gas is fine if you're in the city and already supplied. Some safety and venting issues though.

Induction is Fabulous! Quick, clean, safe and responsive. Mine even has slow cook, milk simmer and boil-and-stop for pasta water. It's also timeable for pasta or pressure cooking- just walk away with a clean conscience!
One little moan, I had to stop using my lovely steel pans as they weren't compatible . Pressure cooker and cast iron were, so all I needed was a new frying pan. If you love/hate cooking it will free up your time to do something more/else and ny bills have worked out the same since switching from gas.

Ikea sells side-by-side gas and induction hobs. You could have the best of both worlds!
(Probably not much help if you've already chosen the design...)

Brilliant thanks looks like it is induction all the way. Just need to decide if I want 4 or 5 ring.

special subject, how on earth are you managing to burn things onto an induction hob? Are you sure it's not a halogen or ceramic hob (which are horrible, and are a pain to clean)?

Honestly, OP, all you have to do to clean an induction hob is wipe over it.

I have Gas on glass, - 5 Gas burners,, but the hob itself is made of glass, wipe clean, looks great- best of both

yes, it was a ceramic hob - corrected in second posting.

long gone and good riddance. Uncontrollable - either blazing hot or stone cold, no simmer.

induction may be better but I've got gas now and am never changing. Also means I can cook in a power cut, and with this country's forthcoming energy issues it is just as well!
