Washing machine smells bad after a clean...

Last week I used a Dr Beckman washing machine cleaner for the first time. There wasn't actually a problem with the machine at this point, I just thought it would be good to give it a clean through. But here's the irony - ever since the machine was "cleaned" there is now an unpleasant smell whenever I open the door.

Any ideas on why this has happened? And how I can get rid of it? This is the first time I've known something to become smelly immediately AFTER cleaning...

I would put some bleach in the fabric conditioner draw and a capful of bleach inside the machine.

Turn on a wash. That will sort it!

Have you cleaned out the filter?

The service wash may have dislodged a lot of gunk that is now sitting in the filter.

I thought about the filter but without sounding completely hopeless I can't unscrew the filter cap (it's on really tight and apparently I'm not strong enough) - will ask DH to give it a go when he's home today!

The bleach idea sounds good too, thank you both. The amount of washing I'm getting through with a new baby, this is the worst time for the machine to have a problem!

I can't undo my filter either, so don't feel useless.

You have reminded me that I should do mine - job of the day!

I just posted this on another "smelly washing machine" thread, but pour a can of full fat coca cola (not pepsi) into your detergent drawer and run on a 60 degree wash. You may need to do this twice.
