I don't have any dishwasher tablets, what else can I use?

I know people before have used washing up liquid which has resulted in disastrous amounts of bubbles all over the kitchen floor but presumably they were filling up the whole bit where you put tablet in. Could I just give it a little squirt? Any other ideas?

You really need to add a huge squirt of washing up liquid and then set it for a long, hot cycle then invite us all round for a foam party

I really, really want to put washing up liquid in the dishwasher now just to watch the bubbles. DH really shouldn't leave me home alone, it'd give him a bit of a shock when he gets in from the pub.
I'd be doing it in the name of science obviously.

Don't put washing up liquid in. Put it in empty, but squirt some liquid directly onto the dishes. Does the trick.

I've done the washing-up liquid thing.

"Mummy, why are there lots of bubbles in the kitchen?"

Just run it without one. There will be enough residue to wash them - and, unless your dishes are horrifically dirty, with baked on stuff, the hot water should clean them anyway!

Yes soda crystals, I use them in my pre wash bit. Forgot to add a dw tablet once, dishes came out pretty clean and not greasy or smelly!

I've used a small squirt of washing up liquid and it was fineSmile

I did the washing up liquid thing once, it wasn't too bad. The bubbles stayed in the machine and another cycle got rid of them.

Just pop it through on a intensive wash. Or on a rinse and run it again when you get a tablet.

Is it wrong that this thread makes me want to squirt washing up liquid into my dishwasher? I want a kitchen full of bubbles!

Whatever you do DO NOT put the washing up liquid in the dishwasher. I did it once. There were bubbles everywhere and they got onto the electronics and killed it!

Really hot wash without detergent, it'll get it clean.

washing powder (for clothes) works just fine.

washing up liquid does not !

I have heard washing up liquid can ruin a dishwasher, so
I wouldn't risk it. I would run it with just water as suggested.

I also want a kitchen full of bubbles................... hope I can stop myself when I get home!
