Popcorn burnt my saucepan

DH made popcorn with DD yesterday. With the oil and kernels etc It was great fun and a bit of an experiment for her. All good (and yummy)... However now there is a black substance stuck to the bottom of my (favourite) saucepan and absolutely nothing is shifting it. I've googled and tried all the home remedies and bought just about every cleaner from Morrinsons. I'm thinking I will have to chuck my saucepan Hmm

Anyone experienced this before? Just to note, it's not like a burnt in food. It's smooth and flat and jet black. It doesn't even look like a scorch or a burn. It looks welded on. Any thoughts?

Yes, put some bicarb and boiling water in it, and let it soak for the day. It should come off. If you don't have bicarb, use bio washing powder and let it soak as well.

Failing that, don't chuck it away. Keep it just for popcorn purposes Wink This microwave popcorns never taste as good as the real thing done in a pot....

astonish oven and cookware cleaner (it is a paste in a blue tub) plus a scouring sponge will get the scorch marks off. I get mine from home bargains

I put soda crystals in the pan with boiling water, then boil for a few minutes - all comes off. I make popcorn a lot and use this every time.

I see there is another thread on soda crystals now, off to read that!

Cook some acidic fruit in it (raspberries, rhubarb etc). They always leave my saucepans super shiny.
