Machine wash nappa leather jacket?

I've got a tan coloured nappa leather jacket. It's been stored in the loft for ages and is now stinky and a bit mouldy. I've not worn it for ages, but I love it. It's beyond dry cleaning help IMO. I've read online about machine washing it, but am I brave enough to chance it? Have any MNs machine washed leather?

Yes - when I was more than usually broke and couldn't afford dry cleaning on a jacket with a leather collar.

The leather went stiff, dry and nasty and eventually started to fall apart. And that was on the best possible washing method.

On the other hand, if your alternative is to bin it - why not?
