Our deep fat fryer needs to be emptied. What should I do with the old oil? I don't want to just tip it down the sink. Thanks

Put it in the bin. Do you have some kind of container you could put it in like a milk bottle (with a funnel)?
Or you could use newspaper to absorb it all.
I don't fry much but I've used kitchen roll to soak it up before.

Pour it into an old bottle or jam jar when it's cold, put it in the bin.

Hijacking thread here - how many times do you reheat oil? I usually use it 2-3 times then discard. Should it be more or less frequent? What do you all do?

We used to use it loads of times before reusing. I use an old oil bottle and then put it in the bin

if you have a garden, tip it in the corner of that rather than sending packaging to landfill.

My mum used to clean the chip pan fat every couple of uses by straining it through the foot of an old pair of tights! Lasted ages!!!

We used this oil quite a few times, maybe 6-7? But all quite close together. Now it's been sitting there a month or so and I wouldn't dream of using it. I think a few times close together is ok. Our garden is very small, I don't think I can pour it away there

oil does not wash away with water.

It will slowly oxidise and become sticky and gluey.

I keep a large oil bottle for old oil and once it's full take it to the tip for recycling.
