I have a cleaner coming tomorrow for 2 hrs and I'm freaking out about the state of my house. What do I need to do? Sounds crazy I know.. I've been cleaning/tiding all night!

Just tidy up so surfaces and floors are clear.

Seriously, what's the point in cleaning if you have a cleaner coming? Grin

You fool! Just put stuff away- don't clean, that's what you're paying them to do...

Just tidy up a bit so she can clean - no cleaning!!
Write a clear list of what you would like her to do, in order of importance.

wtf, are you winding us up?
just tidy stuff away.
Saying that, I can sympathise. We could never have a cleaner as the place needs a good tidy, so the cleaner could actually clean surfaces and floors.

I know. It's crazy.
I just worry she's gonna come in and think "oh my god, how do these people live!?" My dh works offshore and he's home on Wednesday. I want it to be nice for him coming home. My ds' room has a clear floor but that's about it. So.. I shouldn't hoover tonight then? I guess if she thinks it's really bad she won't come back?

Trust me there's nothing worse as a cleaner having to look for something to do because the place is spotless. No job satisfaction at all.

As mentioned above, tidy up, make sure as much as possible surfaces and floor is clutter free (even if just stacked paperwork into a pile) then your cleaner can clean.

I tidy, cleaner cleans.

So night before I pick up abd put away anything sitting out.

Cleaner does

Hob and oven,
wipe down sides and tiles.
Sweep and mop
Windows, frames and sills
Hoover
Wipe down bathroom.
Mirrors
Banisters, switches, handles.

It's great all I have to do I generally keep in top of the clutter and whip round the night before she comes and house never gets bad.

Just clear surfaces and floors really, as long as you pick up the house and make sure nobody is using the rooms she needs to clean while she is there it should be fine to clean.

I would store away important items and valuables too, not because you don't trust her (I'm sure you must to have her in your home) but to ensure they don't get knocked onto the floor and maybe end up in the vacuum which is likely during a thorough clean. This because if you left them out then she can't really be held responsible for their loss.
