Vaseline in carpet

So if a toddler smears half a tub of vaseline into their bedroom carpet, how would you get it out? Is the carpet doomed?!

I would mop up as much as possible with kitchen roll and scrape with a blunt knife. When as much as possible has been removed rub with neat washing up liquid or swarfega to get rid of th grease. Shampoo with carpet cleaner and hope for the best
