Slightly Stupid Lightbulb Question

Ok, if I have a light socket which can take up to 60W bulbs, can I put in one of those energy saving 12W (or whatever) bulbs that gives 100W-worth of light?

I can, can't I?

yes - cos 100W thing is used as a comparison for the amount of brightness that it gives off. It only uses 12W (or whatever) and doesn't heat up as a standard 100w bulb would.
