Cleaning tarnished door handles

My door handles have become discoloured, probably tarnished.
I think they are satin chrome.
I have tried various cleaning tips, but the handle underneath the tarnish is gleaming, whilst most of the tarnish persists.

Any tips?

It sounds like the coating might have rubbed off - in which case, it's a case of replacing them I'm afraid!

You could try Worcester sauce or tomato ketchup as they have gentle acids that can bring back shine.

Or I'd be tempted to repaint them!

Ah.
I would never have thought of Worcester sauce or ketchup. The kids will be so surprised I will have to have a go with ketchup.
