Food processors, which one?

Hello all!
Myself and Ds2 love baking and we have a stick blender with a processing cup and we experimented with it by using it to make shortbread and it worked wonders, now, the cup is quite small and can only really do salsas, hummus, etc so we've been looking at food processors for grating, slicing, kneading dough and making large batches of cake batter.
We've no idea which to look at or get, the only thing I know is that Kenwood and Magimix are supposed good brands in this field, are there any other brands which are good and easy to store?
TIA

This thread is very old now, so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for the latest recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best food processor guide with the top options tried, tested and loved by Mumsnetters, including info on Kenwood and Magimix. We hope this helps.

I do everything you've mentioned in my magimix and think it's very good. It's a bit of a faff to clean though but it's the only food processor I've had so I'm not sure if they are all the same.

Missingsleepandthecat · 02/04/2015 21:31

mrswhiskers how long have you had it?

I've only had it around a year but it's used most days. They have very good reviews for standing the test of time and come with a 10 year guarantee.

I'll definitely look at Magimix then

If you want a combined food processor and a kitchen mixer the Kenwood Prospero is very good. Check the wording carefully as there's 2 models sold, 1 with the extras and 1 without, when I looked there wasn't a huge price difference so it's worth getting the extras.

I think I looked at one of those in Sainsbury's, didnt take much notice of the price but did like the built in weighing scales

I'm interested in finding a food processor too! I just want to get a really good all rounder.

I have the Dualit one. It's very good. Haven't used it for a while as I don't have any counter space & not been cooking as much. I do get it out to do a mountain of chopping etc. I used to use it all the time & would recommend.

Ive got a Kenwood Major food mixer which is absolutely brilliant for dough, cake mixture etc. It came with a food processor attachment, and the I also bought a slicer attachment for it. I have an ordinary food processor as well, but never use it because the Kenwood is amazing.

It does come at a price, though. I think I paid about £350 for the mixer and then £60 for the chopper/slicer attachment. Worth every penny, but still an investment.

The Bosch food processors do all that and are a really good stand mixer. I love my Bosch mum461a which was only £75 when I got it from John Lewis.

Bosch mum461a
what it doesn't do is chop, but does grate and slice. I think you can get an extra attachment for chopping.

hollyisalovelyname · 07/04/2015 09:52

I got a Bosch one.
It has loads of bits so is kept in a huge box in a store room and never used.
I had intended getting a Magimix and am sorry that I didn't.

bruffin · 07/04/2015 10:11

All food processors that do more than one job come with lots of bits. I have an old moulinex that takes up far more room than my Bosch and it cant mix meringue or a decent cake mix.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have a nose now :)

Magimix, we debated getting one, dh thought it was too expensive and wouldn't get used. He uses it all the time!
