Fridge in a garage - bad idea?

We have had an extra little freezer in our garage for years and it's been great. I could now do with an extra fridge out there too - just a small larder-type - but on the Currys website it says in the small print about each one I like "not designed to be used in an outbuilding. Both your food and the appliance can be damaged...do not use it in any unheated area". Has anyone gone ahead and done this anyway? I'd appreciate any advice...

I have a friend who did and the fridge stopped working - it's designed to work in a heated building that has a relatively constant temperature, not a cold garage. When they returned the fridge the guarantee was not valid.

Shop around a bit - there are some fridges & freezers which are built to sustain lower external temperatures so would be fine in a garage.

We have a fridge in our garage and never had a problem with it. We also have one in our static caravan that only has heat on in it when we are there. Again no problems.

We know the small print says not to but we put that down to them covering themselves for people putting them in damp outdoor places. Both our shed and caravan get cold but both are very dry inside with no damp issues.

Ours stopped working when it was in the garage.

Beko do sell fridges & freezers that are able to cope with temperatures down to -20c, therefore perfect for having in the garage :)

We have a beko freezer in our shed and it has been fine, so if they do fridges might be the make to try

Probably not a good idea although my mom did have a deep freezer (waste of money in my opinion because she neglected the food stored in there)

anyway, if your fridge broke, you still can use it for pantry. Just make sure you clean and air it out. My grandma likes to use her broken fridge for pantry to keep mice and insect away.

We have a Hoover fridge in the garage & it's still running well after 10 years. We don't have any room in the house to keep a fridge freezer in the house, we have a small integrated fridge in the kitchen so that's why we got the Hoover in the garage.

Thanks everyone. I've decided to buy a cheap little larder-type and risk it! Smile
