How to spruce up white school shirts

My son (5) wears a white cotton shirt with collar as part of his uniform. I wash them regularly and (when I have time scrub collars and sleeves). However they still look faintly greyish. The shirts are not old and are relatively expensive so I don't want to buy new ones. How can I get them looking white and newish again?

Biological powder, boil wash with a dash of bleach.

The collars and cuffs may pucker if they have synthetic thread or lining which will not withstand the heat. See what the label says.

White shirts must never be washed with anything coloured, even if it is a pale colour, and even if it has white on it.

Persil really is good for whites. Powders contain bleaching agents so are better for whites than liquids, which don't. Hotter washes dissolve the powder better.

You may find a cup of Washing Soda Crystals help, if there is a resident sludge present in the shirts or machine (repeated cool washes tend to let sludge build up).

My white shirts are noted for their dazzling brilliance.
