Sounds hellish. Sorry no advice but thought I'd give you a bump.

fairyjay · 31/10/2006 11:23

Get the council to send their 'rodent exterminator' round to check.

SoupDragon · 31/10/2006 11:57

Pest Control. It's the only way. the man I had to sort my mice out said it's very common to mistake rats for mice. Mind you, mice make a lot of noise. I could hear the little b*ggers nibbling away and it was that which tipped me over the edge into getting them poisoned.

Keep checking the poison and replenishing it.

Marina · 31/10/2006 12:00

Would it help to contemplate the possibility that it could be squirrels Rickman? Agree you need to get it sorted though

CreepyCrawlyCarmenere · 31/10/2006 12:03

Rickman, definitely get pest control in asap and definitely tell yourself that it is squirells and my top tip when dealing with the possiblity of rodents in the house - wear ear plugs when you sleep as you won't hear them scratching

mascaraohara · 31/10/2006 12:03

Squirrels are noisy little buggers, in the loft - had them last year... it's the right time of year for squirrels too. Their poo is larger than rats, more like a pellet so should be easy enough to get up there and check it out.

Skribble · 31/10/2006 12:03

Could be mice or even birds.

Mind MIL had a rat in her loft just one, they put down poison then had to find it once dead.

Rat proofing is very difficult as they can get in very small gaps like mice. Wire wool or scourers are apparently good for plugging up gaps as they won't chew it.

skanger · 31/10/2006 12:13

rats wee carrys a disease-so be careful if you have a water tank in the loft that they might be getting into

skanger · 31/10/2006 12:16

its called weils disease and is dangerous to humans-get Rento-kill out asap!

anorak · 31/10/2006 12:24

Ditto what skanger says. My brother had weil's disease and he was very ill - in hospital for weeks.

poppynic · 31/10/2006 12:30

Don't delay - get rat man immediately. We had rats in roof once - it's gross listening to them isn't it. What he did was hardly rocket science but it meant we didn't have to deal with anything - one set of poisoning put down and no more rats - whew -

Rickman, I'm telling you, earplugs. And a few glasses of wine. And you will sleep easy.
