Following on from the laundry thread, how often do people wash their jeans?
And do you iron them?
Would you put babies/toddlers in jeans?
Do you even wear jeans yourself or do you find them stiff restricting?
DH & I wash our jeans as little as possible and never iron them, I believe it takes a few wears to get clean jeans just right, should be soft as a kidglove. They only get washed when they start to smell (which is ages actually if you hang them up to air at night.)
I also put both my little ones in jeans but I heard my neighbour say she'd never put jeans on little kids but then I'm quite sure she irons their pants, not to mention their jeans.
So I'm probably bottom of the scale for jeans washing, where do you come?

i wear jeans most of the time.

used to wash them only occasionally, now wash them quite a bit as little miss tends to puke over them...

wouldn't put a baby in denim - way too much hassle. she just wears babygros... i'd probably put a toddler in jeans; haven't got to that stage yet though.

i wash them insideout on 40 degrees (though someone once said to me you should never wash above 30...)

usually tumble dry until damp then hang out so that i don't need to iron them. that way, they dry nice and soft without creases.

definitely wouldn't iron a crease down the front!!!!! LOL

ginmummy · 31/10/2006 09:12

I wash mine after a few wears, which sounds skanky but when I only wear them for a couple of hours at a time it's not so bad. I do iron them and ds wears jeans all the time, though his get washed after every wear. And after a week in smart trousers for work I find jeans comfortable and practical at the weekend.

danceswiththedevil · 31/10/2006 09:15

No ironing here either! I also wear mine until the grubby fingerprints are starting to show, there's nothing worse than that crispy, tight straight out of the wash feeling My children wear jeans (well dd 3yrs does) and ds has denim dungarees. I've ruined a good pair of jeans by tumble drying them without turning them inside out leaving big streaks down the front. DON'T DO IT!

Oh and I love M&S jeans which fit me beautifully and hate GAP jeans which always have a good foot of material at the end of the legs (I'm only 5ft)

ps I will NEVER ever iron my children's pants.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 31/10/2006 09:17

DH wears his jeans for 2 days then they get washed, dried and ironed

I only own 2 pairs of jeans so dont wear them that often, but when I do, Im usually covered in baby mess to get another wear out of them, so are washed, dried and ironed.

Jessi and becky both have a lot of jeans.... and wear them a lot. Great for toddlers i find, and again get washed dried and ironed after each wear.

colditz · 31/10/2006 09:18

I don't put immobile babies in denim. Once they are crawling it'sd brilliant stuff. My 3 year old wears jeans. I wear them 2 or 3 times before washing them

Bozza · 31/10/2006 09:18

I wash them after about a week of wear. Although some of this will be just evenings when I am working. I iron them, but no creases because it softens them up after line/airer drying. My children wear them. I think they are great for toddlers because they are hardwearing. And this is why DD has lots of handmedown jeans. Although I like jeans I do not live in them - I like skirts, cords etc also.

Bucketsofbloodydinosaurs · 31/10/2006 10:00

LOL Ginmummy, it's only skanky if you go commando (or wear a thong)

OP posts:
ginmummy · 31/10/2006 10:19

I could never go commando in jeans - the heavy seam would chafe! Ouch!

I usually wear a knicker liner with them though so it's not as skanky as it sounds.

nikkie · 31/10/2006 20:34

I wear jeans practically every day, wash after1/2 wears at work or 3/4 at home.
I never iron!!!!!!!!!!
Kids are 5&6 they wear a lot of jeans too.
(mainly next/cherokee jeans for all of us)

Piffle · 31/10/2006 20:45

wash on average after 3-4 days wear, sometimes they can go longer, sometimes less. Before preg I lived in my two pairs of jeans and alternate almsot weekly now I think back.
Iron jeans NO
My dd (4)has Gap soft jeans with flowers on them

PennyForTheGuy · 01/11/2006 18:45

I always wash mine inside out, otherwise the denim can go streaky. I wash them when they're dirty, usually get about 4 wears out of them. Always iron them, unless they happen to not need it, which isn't often. My boys wear them, but my Daughter hates them.

Wear wash and put on the the next day. Never see an iron. Wear till they go gnome knees or baggy at the arse...then buy some ones.

Ellieorange · 01/11/2006 19:19

The question is not the skankiness of own jeans but of dh's jeans. he never puts them to wash. he has 3 pairs and about every 4 months I just wash all 3. there is no way i am smelling them to see if they are dirty. nothing except dh shirts (he does them himself) get ironed in our house, let alone jeans...and yes, they are great for crawlers, don't show the dirt after one day! (Usually can wait for 2 days before washing).

canadianmum · 01/11/2006 19:26

Wear them for 2 days, 3 days max, then wash inside out at 40 degrees, hang to dry and then iron flat (no creases ).

Bucketsofbloodydinosaurs · 01/11/2006 20:02

But I still don't get the ironing - they're only crinkled for the first day so if you wear them around the house, they soften up and smarten up. Also they're supposed to be scruffy!

MerlinsBeard · 01/11/2006 20:05

not read all the thread but the advice from ralph lauren (used to work for them ) was to leave for a slong as possible b4 they were washed and wash inside out, line dry or dry flat, and iron only if you have to and even then on a low heat.

different with cheap jeans tho!

ilovecaboose · 01/11/2006 20:21

I live in jeans - wear them for 2-3 days b4 washing (as long as I haven't spilt anything down them). I iron them when I forget to shake them out/dry them flat.

Ds (2) wears mostly jeans - I love him in them as they are hard wearing. Sometimes can be too stiff round waist, but mum found some good ones in Tesco.

glitterchick · 02/11/2006 10:13

Lucky if I get half a day out of my jeans. Seem to be continuously covered in puke (7 mth old). Wash, fold and put in tumble dryer, iron and put on. Haven't got time for anything else.

MissybaBANG · 02/11/2006 14:28

LOL ellieorange, only dh's shirts get ironed in our house (he usually does it). i HATE ironing!!!!

Bucketsofburntdinosaurs · 03/11/2006 09:49

Glitterchick, if you have no time, why do you bother ironing them? They must be nice and soft after tumbledrying and if you've bothered to fold them not too wrinled either?
This is what I don't understand - people complaining they don't have time and then forcing themselves to do extra ironing (Confused not sceptical there)
