I was on a mad cleaning spree as we currently moved into a rental house.I decided to purchased a steam cleaner thinking it'll make life a little easier. The kitchen is lovely with black high gloss cabinets which really needed a good clean so I ran the steam cleaner over them. Big mistake cause I ruined them, there streaky and there's water marks that will not buff out. Is there anything I can do???...Im worried sick what the landlord will say????

Can you try ringing the manufacturer of the steamer? Hopefully they will help.

I think you are going to be liable to replace them if you have caused permanent damage. Have you got household insurance you might be covered under accidental damage.

could you re steam them and buff with a dry cloth before they dry/cool down?

is it paint, or is it laminate?

Do you have hard water?

PigletJohn it's laminate and yes we live in a hard water area. Not sure whether to re-steam using bottled water?

laminate is very durable, as long as you don't let moisture get at the base board through the edge trim, screw-holes or hinge-holes). Kitchen furniture is usually chipboard or MDF, which is easily damaged by damp.

I would give it a good rub with an old vest a barely damp soft cotton cloth, which usually polishes off watermarks. Try a little kitchen or bathroom spray on the cloth if there is lime marking. Polishes and cleaners may leave it smeary.
