Why are the dishes from the dishwasher coming out dirty?

Dishwasher is a Bosch, top of the range and one year old.

Some of the dishes come out with dirt/residue. I use the 70 degree cycle.

I've done an empty wash, used the special dishwasher cleaner, filled the salt and rinse aid and cleaned all the parts. No difference.

What more can I do? What is wrong with it?

Rinse the plates beforehand?

mousmous · 17/03/2015 21:33

have you unscrewed and cleaned all parts of the filter?

HungryDam · 17/03/2015 21:36

Yes to both, rinsed them all and cleaned out all the parts too!

Blocked jets maybe? Take off the spinning arms and try and clear them out. I usually find when my dishes aren't clean there are bits of food blocking the jets.

Different make but I had this with my dishwasher. There were some little plastic inserts which sit on the top shelves and apparently press against the door so that the spray works effectively. Anyway one of them had come off and eventually got trapped in the filter. It meant initially that the spray wasn't working properly and then when it got completely stuck it stopped draining. I refused to believe that this could be the cause as these little things are tiny and it seemed implausible. However since they have been fitted back on the machine is washing perfectly...

I have a Bosch and have had this problem since we bought it. I think they are just a bit crap. We bought for quality but the Bosch has been so much worse than my old workhorse Hotpoint. I clean it out and run the cleaning tablets through regularly. Never did any cleaning of my old one. Boo.

Have you tried raising or lowering the top basket (if it can do that). Is the underneath spinner getting stuck on anything (large knife sticking out of the cutlery basket, that kind of thing - raising the top basket can help with this too).

I hope you get it sorted, the dishwasher breaking down is high on my list of things in life that give me the fear!

My Bosch is rubbish too. I practically wash the plates before putting them in, after rinsing, otherwise they will come out with food residue stuck on them. I often have to clean tea cups with after dishwashing with a Flash magic sponge. I am working up to getting something else. Sorry, not much help!

I've got a Bosch. It is nowhere near as good as the 20+ year old Bosch it replaced when we redid the kitchen, but it still cleans well.

You could:
Check the machine settings re hardness of water and so on;
Check the inflow and outflow pipes and connections for kinks and obstructions that might lessen the water flow;
Change cleaner. I get better results with loose powder cleaner than I did with tabs.
Ask Bosch online or by phone. A lot of companies' customer service advice lines can be surprisingly helpful. And possibly, get it serviced as the service engineer might spot what the issue is.

there's a Bosch advert appeared the bottom of this thread.

onepieceoflollipop · 19/03/2015 21:18

This is my second Bosch dishwasher and I find the results variable (previous model much more effective)
I find that items at certain angles don't get clean (esp tall glasses or large mugs on toprack) if they are too upright iykwim they come out dirtier - as if dirty water has got inside them and then the dirt has dried.
Also the cup rack is useless, only good for a few utensils, not small cups.
Changing detergent, cleaning filter etc made no difference.

I am a bit puzzled.

Fairy Platinum, and Aldi and Lidleat a tenth the price, came out top in Which tests.

I would start by reading the instructions again. My machine has three filters, plus a little sump which can apparently get stuff in it. Some people only clean two.

I gather you have already taken the arms out and cleaned them, and you have checked that the hardness is adjusted for your area. Open the door during a wash to verify it is steaming hot, and both arms are spinning. Mine has a way of only operating the bottom arms. e.g. if you have put huge pans inside and are not using the upper tray. While the door is open check that the tablet fell out during the hot wash.

You don't put greasy grill pans in, do you? It is possible for greasy sludge to form inside the LHS plumbing. You can't clean it out without taking it apart.

We had this with a Bosch. Thankfully (?) it finally died and now we have a Miele with no problems.

Iggly · 21/03/2015 06:49

I have a Bosch (7 years old though) and no problems. Can you ring them and complain/ask?

MummyBtothree · 22/03/2015 00:12

The tiny holes where water is sprayed out need broggling out with a pin, they get blocked. Maybe its not working properly, maybe overloading it or crappy detergent?

Imscarlet · 22/03/2015 00:20

We had this problem recently, not with a Bosch though. The spinning arm for the top shelf was broken and we just ordered a new one off the net. It's working properly again now. The dishwasher was about 8 years old though. It affected both top and bottom shelves.
