How to clean wee from a mattress?

Just that really. DD had an accident last night and it has soaked through to the mattress. Any top tips for how to clean the mattress?

I may have a little experience of this!!!

Take everything off and scrub the mattress with a nail brush or pan scourer using biological washing powder dissolved in warm water. You might find its soaked right through to the other side of the mattress so do both sides if necessary. When its just damp speed bicarb on the area then hoover this off when its dry. Should take all the smell out.

Mop up the excess wee as best you can with an old piece of towel. Then wash the area with a not very diluted dettol solution. Then leave in the sunshine to dry if poss.

Ugh hate it when this happens! I steamed my boys mattress with the steam generator iron to kill the bacteria to get rid of the smell. Could also use the steam mop if you have one.

Thanks all! Waiting for bicarb to dry as we speak. Think I'll go over it with steam too just to be sure.

For future mess, pets at home do a spray that cleans and neutralises cat pee. It's the only product I have found that doesn't leave a chemically smell afterwards.

Once you've cleaned it you might be left with a stain. You can get rid if the stain by spraying it with hydrogen peroxide 3%. You can get it from the chemist. The stain just magically disappears in front of your eyes.

I sprinkled the bicarb on rather than put it in the spray bottle and used a brush to work it in. It fizzes satisfyingly.
