Do you have a sheet underneath your duvet? Have I been making a bed wrong all these years?

So I'm looking for bedding for DS2 who is having a new bed delivered on saturday. The pictures all show a fitted sheet (or tucked in flat sheet). Then a sheet and then a duvet (in a duvet cover of course). Then often a throw or quilted "comforter" on top.

I've never put a flat sheet between me and the duvet. Have I been doing it wrong all these years? Confused

Ooh yes I'd forgotten about downies. Candlewick bedspread anyone?

My mum has a flat sheet under duvet, she reckons she doesn't have to wash duvet cover as much.

She changes it every two months yuk!

Parents had a fine line in candlewick bedspreads, LoveVintage. I may uncover one at some point.

DM just moved into a care home and I was down at her house today - found a lovely stache of those white flannette sheets with the pastel stripes. I'm pretty sure they were bought in the 60s. DM was pretty thrifty and did a mean line in turning sheets "side to middle". Boy, they were uncomfy.

She also kept DFs old army blankets. Don't know why as they were horrid thin things with virtually no warmth in them. I'll probably unearth them too.
