Mould on carpet

Hi, I discovered that my ex-partner spilt a drink on my basket containing all my paperwork, which he didn't bother to clean up properly. As a result there is a now a large patch of mould on the carpet, as well as on some of my paperwork.

Does anyone know if there is a way to remove the mould completely, or should I replace the carpet? I am 24 weeks pregnant and it worries me having mould in the house as I have heard it can be toxic.

Thank you

The first thing I'd do would be to get it all totally dry.
Then I'd either steam clean, or just keep hoovering to pick up all the spores.

Thank you. the area was dry already and i sprayed it with white vinegar as it apparently kills the germs. I plan to buy a steam cleaner anyway so will try that too.
