Dishwasher very hot at the back. Is this normal?

We had to pull our appliances out due to a leak. The dishwasher is next to the tumble dryer and I discovered that the back of the dishwasher had melted into the dryer plug! I ran the dishwasher and the back was very hot. Is this normal does anyone know? Obviously it no longer touches the plug but I don't want to ignore a possible problem!

yes

you are thinking of the black tarry sound-deadening coating. It is naturally sticky. It has not melted.

I find it helps to tape a piece of silicone baking parchment over that part of the back which presses against the plug.

You can scrape the plug clean and use a green nylon scourer on the back (but don't get it wet)

If there are signs of scorching or cracking around the pins of the plug or the holes in the socket, that's different, and means the plug or socket is overheating.
