How to hand wash childs rug.

We have a furry rug from verbudet. It's only a kids one and it looks like a big polar bear, so the body, arms and legs are furry but the head is like an actual stuffed polar bear.

It says hand wash only and it's seen better days. What should I use? I'll probably have to do it in the bath. Really don't want to spoil it.

I'd do it in the bath with a small amount of sturgene or own brand wool/hand washing laundry liquid. I find it rinses out a lot more easily than detergent made for machine washing. Or how about shampoo?

In practice I'd probably do it in the handwash cycle of my washing machine though.
