The water is going in and draining but when the knob clicks to the wash or spin part nothing happens, as if the motor has gone. Any ideas?

Have you got too much in it? Mine goes on strike when I have big sheets in it especially the waterproof type, they kind of get in a ball and it can't cope with the weight.

Go onto you tube and type in the problem with washing machine make and model and someone will have posted an answer to your question. It's amazing how many home made washing machine videos are online.

We tried it empty as well. Dh thinks it's the brushes (double Dutch to me) but yes, good idea dr google knows most things!

You might need to take the back off and see if any springs have come off or if the rubber has come loose before you do anything else, I think overloading the washing machine can cause it to do that. Is it still making a normal noise when it gets to the spin bit and just not turning? May be the rubber band/spring/the thing that turns the drum.

(I'm on my 3rd washing machine in the space of just over a year. My garden was a washing machine graveyard!)
