How much should we expect to pay for a bed?

We've decided to get a larger bed (currently have a double but really could do with a king) but neither of us have actually bought a bed before Blush my mum bought our last one as a housewarming gift. I've looked on the IKEA website and looks like the cheapest option is £200 for the frame (I really want underbed storage) and £100 for the mattress, is this reasonable? Any tips on buying a decent bed without spending loads of money?

think of it as an investment.

i just bought a double bed for me and me alone....i spent £349 on the bed and another £349 on the mattress. id say the mattress is the most important part....test a few. i went to DFS and bounced on lots of mattresses before i found the one i wanted. i went for a mid range one so not the most expensive by any stretch but its comfortable and thats what i wanted. you spend half your day in bed remember!

So theoretically we could just buy a cheap and cheerful frame and spend a bit more on the mattress?

i would. yes.

the mattress is the important bit! but go for a decent enough frame so that it doesnt squeak or wobble....

DFS have a buy now, pay in a year then 3 years interest free....worth a look?

i got a deluxe sik mattress but i know they had memory foam ones on offer for the same price....i just preferred the one i got.

the bed frame i ended up with was £249 (dont ask! the one i ordered wouldnt fit up the stairs!)

have a look at dfs or others similar that do offers and interest free credit?

We spent £1700 on our bed (mattress and divan). It sounds like a lot but our bed is heavenly.

You spend a third of your life in bed. Don't stint...

I can recommend Warren Evans for the frame.

We have an Ikea bed. I love it as the frame has tall legs so the bed is high up :) We spent around £300 on our mattress. With Ikea though, be careful as some of their frames have pointy corners (painful if you accidently bump into them)

I can't remember exactly how much ours cost but do recall it was about £1000. Best money spent. I love our bed. It came form Bensons for beds.

Thank you for your advice, everyone :-)

I'm a bit late to the party but we recently bought a king size bed frame from Oak Furniture Land in their sale and Natural Collection mattress from John Lewis which was a special buy.

We had to wait for the mattress to be made to order as it's a firm one. It is so comfortable. Spend money on the mattress as pp have said.
