DH's birthday is looming and he's a right bugger to buy for. He does like to cook though and has dropped unsubtle hints that he'd like a deep fat fryer.

I'm frankly a bit meh about it for "another kitchen gadget taking up space" reasons, but if he takes to it I guess I can look forward to tempura everything and billionty-times-cooked chips and those risotto ball thingys etc etc which I'm sure will be lovely and everything. Plus happy DH, which is kind of the point...

Anyone have one? What features should I look for? What's good, but not silly expensive? I can probably get F/DMIL to go in with me as they usually look to me for ideas.

This thread is quite old, but if you’re here looking for a fryer to cook tempura, chips and much more to perfection, we’ve recently updated our best deep fat fryer page with plenty of great Mumsnetter-approved options. We hope you find it helpful.

I know nuffin about nuffin - but google actifry, does the same thing I believe but only uses 1 spoon of oil

I have no knowledge of fryers or actifrys, but have seen good reports about it on here. Smile

Thanks Furball, just checked it out - does look good however I can't see how it would do stuff that you have to plunge into hot oil, like tempura. I think there definitely needs to be plunging potential!
