MissyBabee · 22/10/2006 15:41

ok, i thoroughly recommend AEG, mine's a Lavatherm. Got it at John Lewis which truly was the best price around. Plus they deliver and take your old one away (if applicable).

Really really hope i haven't just jinxed mine now...

batinshoes · 22/10/2006 17:55

mine is tricity bendix from John lewis, was a good price and had free extended warrenty. Im pretty pleased with it.

Tutter · 22/10/2006 18:27

Bosch Classixx - had it for 5 years and never had any probs

LizP · 22/10/2006 18:30

I've got an LG which is good at drying and takes a big load, but it does bung loads of moisture into the room so only works if you have it in a utility room. In the kitchen it would be like living in a sauna.

wordgirl · 22/10/2006 18:43

I got my first ever tumble dryer on Friday. It's a Bosch WTE86304 Exxcel. It was one of Which's best buys and I got it for £309.
Unfortunately mine appears to have a faulty timer and it's being exchanged so I'm not too sure if this is a recommendation or not!

mrsdarcy · 22/10/2006 18:50

oooh, Which have a recent survey of condensers, and I need to buy one soon as well. I'll have a look at their website when the children are in bed and post details.

I wanted to check out the Which "Best Buys" in John Lewis, as I want one with a marvellous condenser and an easy-to-empty reservoir so will pracise emptying it .

There are a few new ones on the market which use a different sort of technology and are much more energy-efficient. But I got the impression that there weren't many out yet so there isn't much choice. Does anyone know about this?

Sorry, I get very excited and very anal about these sort of projects.

Got a Hoover Nextra 7.5kg condenser with "sensor drying" from local independent who did a good price and delivered next day. No probs so far. Is in utility rm. Does get a bit steamy but I think they all do this (MIL has a Zanussi that is similar). I think it was placed somewhere in the middle of the Which report (I didn't have the funds to afford Bosch or Miele).

Had it the week after having my DD a few months ago - is my 1st dryer and don't know how I'd manage without it!

theHAUNTEDhazelnut · 22/10/2006 19:17

I don't know which are the best or good buys, but I do know that you don't want to buy a Candy one. I had one and it was no good in just over a year of use. (Once or twice a week) The bloke that looked at it for me said he has had nothing but trouble with Candy dryers. I needed to get a new drum to make mine work again. I now have a "White Knight" and I have had no problems with it at all. No bottles to empty as it has a pipe on it that goes into your sink drainage or a small hole through a wall or through an old vent hole. I am very pleased with it

batinshoes · 23/10/2006 08:24

Thanks everyone.

I'd be interested to see the Which report.

I already heard Candy were'nt very good so thanks HauntedHazel.

At the moment I'm thinking cheap and cheerful with an Indesit IS70C as it gets good reviews on reevoo.com

Creda are fab too

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 23/10/2006 08:41

White Knight from Argos.

There was a thread a while ago about tumble dryers and White Knight were very popular.

We have had ours for 2.5 years now with no problems AT ALL and it is still as new - and an added bonus of a 6kg drum!

bigfatbump · 23/10/2006 13:03

The John Lewis own brand one comes up well on surveys too and is an OK price if I remember correctly.

Birdly · 26/10/2006 20:55

Don't get a Hotpoint Ultima. Ours is completely useless and breaks down regularly. DH refers to it as the '£300 paperweight'!
It always conks out either just before we go away or just after we get back - and usually when it's pouring with rain.
Luckily, DH is an engineer and can fix it. It would have cost us hundreds by now if we'd had to keep calling someone out. We've had it less than 2 years and the plan is to get rid of the paperweight and buy a real tumble drier instead.

batinshoes · 26/10/2006 21:10

Thanks - I've just placed an order today and it comes next week
