My old trusty Dyson died last year. I bought a Vax. It sucks - actually, it doesn't, and that's the problem! I'm developing ingrained dust in the carpet 
and only a hand brush is getting it out.
I prefer upright, but that's possibly because my DM had a hatred of anything else as she said the suction was terrible. I suspect things have changed!
So, please give me your recommendations for hoovers that can lift the carpet!
